Anxiety and Fear

Helping your dog feel safer, more confident, and better equipped to navigate the world

Does your dog startle easily, worry about unfamiliar people, or become overwhelmed in situations that other dogs seem to handle with ease?

Do you find yourself anticipating what might upset your dog, changing your plans to avoid difficult situations, or feeling unsure how to help when your dog is afraid?

Perhaps your dog barks or lunges at other dogs, hides when visitors arrive, struggles with unfamiliar environments, or seems constantly on alert.

Together, we'll help your dog learn how to cope better with the world.

Would you like to help your dog feel safer and more confident, rather than simply trying to stop the behaviors that worry you?

My approach focuses on understanding what's driving your dog's fear and helping them develop the skills and confidence to navigate everyday life more comfortably.

Understanding Your Dog's Fear

Fear and anxiety can show up in many ways. Some dogs retreat, hide, freeze, or try to escape. Others bark, lunge, growl, or snap when they feel threatened.

These behaviors are important forms of communication. By understanding what your dog is experiencing, what triggers their distress, and what helps them feel safe, we can develop a plan that addresses the underlying challenges rather than just the outward behavior.

The goal isn't to force your dog to face their fears, but to help them feel safe enough to learn and cope more comfortably with the world around them.

How We'll Work Together

Training begins with learning about your dog's individual needs, history, environment, and emotional responses. Together, we'll develop a practical plan with strategies you can use in everyday life.

Depending on your dog and your goals, our work may include:

Building confidence

Helping your dog become more comfortable exploring, encountering unfamiliar things, and navigating situations that currently feel difficult.

Changing emotional responses

Using approaches such as counterconditioning to help your dog develop more positive associations with things they find frightening or stressful.

Creating a sense of safety

Identifying triggers, managing the environment, and adjusting expectations to reduce unnecessary stress and prevent your dog from becoming overwhelmed.

Developing relaxation skills

Teaching and reinforcing behaviors that help your dog settle, recover from stress, and feel more comfortable in everyday situations.

Building communication and cooperation

Helping you recognize your dog's signals, provide clear and supportive guidance, and make decisions that help your dog feel more secure.

What Progress Can Look Like

What would make the biggest difference in your life with your dog?

Would it be having visitors over without your dog becoming overwhelmed? Enjoying walks without constantly worrying about encountering another dog? Seeing your dog explore new places with greater confidence? Or simply watching them relax more easily at home?

Every dog is different, so we'll focus on meaningful progress for your dog and the changes that matter most to you.

Let's Help Your Dog Feel More Comfortable

You don't have to figure everything out on your own. We'll start with an assessment to discuss your concerns, explore your dog's behavior and daily routines, and identify where support is needed most.

Together, we'll develop a practical plan tailored to your dog, with strategies you can begin using right away. Follow-up lessons help you put those strategies into practice and adjust the plan as your dog progresses.
