FAQs

How is this class different from standard obedience classes?

Most adult dog classes focus on specific obedience skills, like leash walking, sits, downs, etc. We add to these fundamentals by teaching emotional regulation and self control. At Western Mass Dog Training we identify nuisance behaviors specific to each dog in class while focusing on creating emotional stability. We will teach your dog how to regulate emotions such as excitement, frustration, and anxiety, as well as learning social cues and appropriate play and greeting etiquette.

How do I know if my dog will be able to handle a group environment?

That's a great question! To succeed in the class, at a minimum your dog must be interested in other dogs and comfortable with people. If your dog has a history of getting nervous in social situations, private lessons may be more appropriate. If you are not sure, don't worry, we will review your dog's challenges after you submit a behavioral checklist during the registration process.

Who is the instructor?

Laurie Johnson , owner/founder or Western Mass Dog Training, is your instructor. Have a look at her bio!

Where and when does the class meet?

1 River St, Millers Falls, MA

Tue 6:00-7:00pm & Sat 2:00-3:00pm (twice weekly)

Does the class meet once a week or twice a week?

The course fee is for eight class meetings in total: we will meet twice weekly.

Are refunds available if something comes up and I can't attend?

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds any later than 48 hours prior to our first meeting due to limited spots.

What is the class size limit?

Class size is limited to four dogs, and no more than two adult owners per dog.

Can I get a refund if my dog is too disruptive in the group environment to stay in the class?

Sorry, we cannot offer refunds due to limited slots. If this should occur, however, we will credit 50% of the course fee toward a private training program. Our private training programs start at $650 for 6 hours of instruction.

What documents do I have to provide to enroll in the course?

No documentation is required at the time of registration and payment. However, we will provide you with a liability waiver on the first day of class. You will also need to bring a copy that we can keep of your dog's vaccination records. We will send you more information once your registration is complete.
